A band so rigidly northern and swaggering that you'll either break into an immediate sweat or shudder at the very thought, The Rain Band are a serious prospect that deserve full, undeterred attention.
With debut release, the limited-edition 'The World Is Ours', Joy Division-darkness fuses with Stone Roses-hugeness, effectively topped off with a swelling of Charlatans-esque charisma and trancey programming which would force The Music's collective hippie-hair to stand on-end. Plus, would you believe it, the product is even naggingly immediate - the melodious chorus as exerted from nonchalant, model-a-like frontman Richard Nancollis as dense and demanding as they come... Clearly, Campag Velocet, this is not.
Expect tunes of a similar bombast and belligerent coolness in the imminent future. And anticipate this lead-track's title to hold some considerable relevance for the year ahead.
