Repairman - 'Here Are We Now' (Long Lost Brother)
4/5

If you think you've heard this before, it's because at points, it sounds like every band you've ever loved, past, present and future. But the unique flair of this diverse duo may well grab you just as much.
The second EP from the mysterious Repairman possesses an eclecticism that means within the first minute of the title track, you're already picturing Gorillaz, Bob Dylan, Athlete, The Libertines... a strange mix, you may think. But isn't it one that would actually sound rather fine?
Trust us, it does. The confusing 'Georges Empire' follows up with another twist - a plaintive, acoustic lament with a wonderfully haphazard vocal line that skips from high to low without a care, but with pounding computerised rhythms menacing their way to the forefront by the end of the song.
Lovably, each track on this fine EP has something beguiling about it, something that seems to make it stand out (the uneasy closing track, 'Poor', is no exception). Yet, it is possible to formulate some kind of 'typical' Repairman song if you look close enough - mostly acoustic, delicate use of pounding electronic beats, the odd touch of keyboard shenanigans... simple. And yet, we don't think any less of them for such minimalism. If anything, like most things about Repairman, it can't be praised enough.
