Seachange - 'Glitterball EP' (Matador)

4/5

By: Toby L

Seachange - 'Glitterball'

'She lost her nerve/For a sixties moment,' spit Seachange, before questioning, 'How could you end up like this?' displaying all the intense confusion and frustration of a refreshingly morbid, avant-garde Brit-band.

As, after all, this is a group ensconced with the prospect of a concept-song - a drilling narrative with nagging refrains and scraping violins/guitars forming the gist of their lead 'Glitter Ball', a song so intellectually angst-ridden, it's more likely to throw red wine in your eye rather than a grotesque pint of beer. The advancing 'To Stay Or Move' follows a similar line, escaping its basic, bog-roll production to present a grappling, indie-classical slice of refined paranoia. All in mind, the early signs for Seachange bode extremely well.
