Sitkh - 'Scent Of The Obscene' (Gut)
4/5
By: Samantha Hall

As entangling and darkly mystifying as their torn and ragged-root artwork, this is all death-metal tortured screams, nu-metal type emotive harmonies and an energising, rough-ride rock-base. In theory, sounds like an ideal recipe for an 'alternative music' flan.
And, in practice, it is. Sikth's follow-up to the hugely acclaimed LP 'The Trees Are Dead & Dried Out, Wait For Something Wild' is refined chaos. Similarly ambitious and explorative is their b-side - a very sharp cover of Iron Maiden's 'Wrathchild' - enough to remind us that they can still do the heavy old school thing very well indeed. Admirable.
