Span - 'On My Way Down' (Universal-Island)
3/5

A perplexing hybrid of MOR-rock vocal stylings and an all-conquering, instrumental set-up which evokes My Vitriol amidst one of their reputable Foo Fighters-homage moments, Norway's Span may well prove to be the Jack Daniel's-downing, V-sign blaring antidote to garage-rock for axe-wielding traditionalists the world over.
Aptly too, 'On My Way Down' is just the sort of forceful, simple radio-worthy matter we've been inundated with since the edge and precedent that Nirvana left in their aftermath was severely corroded by time. Yet, despite this, there's enough on display here to suggest that perhaps Messieurs Dave Grohl and Josh Holmes shouldn't become quite too comfortable in their current positions as leaders of the superleague-fraternity - there's only so long a band of this nature can remain snapping at your heels.
