John Squire - 'Joe Louis' (North Country)

4/5

By: Toby L

John Squire - 'Joe Louis'

In the aftermath of his critically-acclaimed, righteously well-received debut-LP 'Time Changes Everything', ex of the 'Roses John Squire releases this, his debut-single 'Joe Louis'.

As intertwining and classic as anything created by what could be deemed his (slightly younger) contemporaries, Ashcroft and Burgess, Squire's northern soul is as briskly arresting as any of its notable reference-points (Mr Dylan, please stand up... If you have the power left to do so, that is...), his voice hovering towards the warble of Tom Verlaine in a fitting effect.

Due to be playing live for the first time ever as a solo-artist in early-2003, let's anticipate that the same sparkle as captured on record can be matched in concert.
