The Stands - 'When This River Rolls Over You' (Echo)
4/5
By: Toby L

Ah, the lush, warming jangle of Scouse-pop - and the debut-single from Noel Gallagher tongue-waggers, The Stands.
And, yes, this is something we've experienced before - think the summer-stoned pace of The La's or Hank Williams at their most endearing and nostalgia-tinged romantic - and, thus, 'When This River Rolls Over You' can be officially denoted the most salubrious, pretty and innocent piece of trad-rock classicism of the year so far.
A cannon still yet to fire, however, and - suddenly - the prospects of The Stands filling an album's worth of such matter becomes ever more enticing a reality. Have a box of hankies at the ready, though - this is tear-jerkingly sweet stuff.
