Starsailor - 'Lullaby' (EMI)

4/5

By: Toby L

StarsailorFollowing three hit singles - the first two of which entered the top-20, whilst third effort, 'Alcoholic', crept a little further ahead into the top-10 - plus a gold debut album that pleased most critics and all fans, it seemed that 'Lullaby' would be Starsailor's biggest hit to date. Incidentally, it charted at number 36 in the UK.

Still, this clearly isn't related to the nature of the song in question, for 'Lullaby' is one of the band's finest and endearingly perfect moments to date. With the strained, though talented vocal of James Walsh bellowing out the most romantic lyrics in an alternative pop song all year, the glorious chorus and heart-warming piano is possibly the cosiest thing to snuggle up to following a stressful Christmas and manic New Year's Eve party.

In times where Coldplay comparisons seem to be the order of the day, forget all the nonsense and remember the best way to find out if a record is for you - by just playing it. After all, the chances are that this track's appeal will reach out towards you too...
