The Star Spangles - 'Which Of The Two Of Us...' (Capitol)
3/5

A distinctly US band-title, attire that would suit even a dapper Mr Casablancas, and a street-cool which should denote some frowning from old-age pensioners, and we've got the latest NYC sensation, everyone! Please welcome... The Star Spangles!
Yes, yes, do try to contain yourselves; we may have been in this position several times before in the past eighteen months, but - if time has proven anything - it's that the pressing of 'play' before providing a barrage of undeserved praise would best serve all involved. Refreshingly certainly, at least with The SS we're not delivered a repeat of prior fast-risers; instead, it's pop-punk in an American Supergrass kinda vibe, yet distinctly lacking the same playfulness. One may argue that when they pull off the Television guitar trickery on flip-side 'Stain Glass Shoes', they actually present themselves in a far more stylish demeanour.
Still early days then, you'd be wise to at least turn up extra early on the upcoming Idlewild Xmas-tour just to check out these guys in support - and see if they live up to the major-label gleam of their associated record-companies in crime.
