Stereophonics - 'Maybe Tomorrow' (V2)
2/5

Once upon a time, so the media will have you believe, there was a big, horrific event: the result was a place called Wales. From this land, small stocky men, nice cakes, and long-haired love gods came. The Stereophonics are from here. One day, maybe the Lord will show mercy, open up the earth's crust, and swallow the place whole... including the 'Phonics.
OK, a little harsh. Let's try that again. So, it is with great pleasure that we present to you: 'Maybe Tomorrow'. The second single from 'You've Gotta Go There To Come Back' sees the Stadium Veterans return, middle-of-the-road and mutton-chopped as ever. That said, the song will predictably enter the top-five. The song scrapes away pleasantly enough and Jones' distinctive hoarse vocals carpet over some soulful 'oohs' and a riff with guitar licks 'n' breaks galore. That said, the song will predictably enter the top-five.
Perfect stuff to relieve the tedium of long-distance car journeys then, but falls short in providing the melody-rich anthem of 'Madame Helga'. Yet 'Have Wheels Will Travel' however, is a nigh-on, completely different story; a life-affirming tune, replete with trumpets and raga-reggae straight from Jamayyyyka... Or 'Electric Avenue' at least.
