The Stills - 'Rememberese EP' (679)
4/5
By: Toby L

Dark, shady, melodic and not without its charm, The Stills' debut is as hauntingly atmospheric as it is cuttingly immediate.
The blend of 4-track recorded-minimalism and the five-musicians-in-a-room intimacy is what marks its merit: opener 'Still In Love Song' both an indie-dancefloor filler and brooding headphone-a-thon, what with its pulsating bass and disco-y chorus, and soaring 'Killer Bees' proof that the lead-track wasn't a one-off. Only when they go ultra low-key and starkly acoustic on a gorgeous 'Talk To Me' do we realise how quietly impressive a first release this truly is.
Add to the list of beneficial factors a living-address in trendy-NYC for members of the contingent, a pat-on-the-back endorsement from buddies Interpol, and a lengthy list of press-plaudits... And, officially, we have a somewhat striking, alluring new talent.
