The Thrills - 'Big Sur' (Virgin)

The Thrills have that extraordinary talent of fashioning songs that sound just as though you've heard them a thousand times before after a single listen. Lucky for us such compositions still remain fascinating and grippingly listenable after just as many repetitions.
Pretty remarkable, then, that 'Big Sur' is only the third single from the unassuming Dublin chappies. Winsome, jangly Travis-esque banjos, a luscious, laid-back vocal from Conor Deasy and perhaps the most immediate chorus committed to record so far this year: this is effortlessly, immediately timeless stuff.
