You can try to over-analyse it, but - as with most things in life - it's simplicity that often proves the most endearing in music.
Almost embarrassingly innocent, the very core essence of The Thrills - i.e. pure, unpremeditated, blissful pop, with real instruments - is precisely what we need; beatific harmonies, focal on a driving chorus and thunderous verses, this is as epic, yet somehow understated, as alt. may get - not to mention as 'astounding'.
