Todd - 'Todd' (Loose Lips Sink Ships)

4/5

Todd - 'Todd'

'I try to say something funny... but my EYES ARE BURNING!'

It's true to say that Todd are ever so slightly dramatic. Newcomers, fronted by a bearded Brit-born Texan, with backing from female-keyboardists (that form the 'bass-lines', as it were), they're the underground's best, if - ironically - loudest, secret.

From sounds of things, they want to tear us a new arsehole - but, seemingly, only in our ears. Their rumbling, QOTSA-meets-Aphex Twin get-up is unrelenting, urgent, f**king fast and - in the case of 'The Sedan' - not entirely holy. Even when they muster the usually twee studio-addition of hand-claps - 'You Wouldn't Believe Me' ('I'm gonna be nice... I'm gonna stop drinking...') - it's still positively satanic.

But with the intense riffage of 'Solid Gold Death Mask' and profanity-strewn mastery of 'Good Neighbourhood', Todd have possibly formed some avant-garde classics. All that's left now - the music-scene to revolt with glee. And, upon exposure to this, just that they shall.
