The Unisex - 'Take Me Higher'

If there's one thing the past 18 months in music have provided us with as conceited Brits, it's the opportunity to look elsewhere outside of hallowed UK shores for musical kicks. With much of the guitar-scene pioneered, if not bettered, in other worldly regions, that another Scandinavian pop-rock act has made it its mission to soundtrack our terrain should be greeted as an appetising prospect.

And all the more power to The Unisex for not sounding like too many others whilst doing it. An aching, forthright vocal and churning, tuneful guitars all packaged neatly in a musical-wrap both instantly infectious and delectably innocent. Debut-UK release 'Take Me Higher' builds and swells thus, whilst 'Magic Carpet' perkily strums along, and it's just a single 'Under The Bridge'-esque enlacing of six strings and unrestrained vocals on a touching 'Sweeter Than Sugar' that exceptionally dazzles.

Like many of their contemporaries, The Unisex are another welcome-addition to this humble Isles' radio-playlists and record-store racks.
