The Wandering Step - 'Now It's Time For...' (Deltasonic)
4/5

Talk about punk-rock. Describing your debut release as an 'extended play' recording (it's in fact just two tracks long, clocking it at a combined playing length of under 7 minutes) seems a mite odd. Still, from a band
signed to a label - Deltasonic - that seems to be making such intriguing oddness in its stable, i.e. The Coral, Danny Connors, the actions of Preston's The Wandering Step should come as no surprise.
The simple-yet-thrilling 'Reykjavik' is essentially the Beach Boy's 'Surfin' USA', as re-worked by The
Ramones. And, as odes to visiting some of the world's northernmost destinations go, it's pretty near faultless. 'Shout and Shout Back', meanwhile, is just plain, old, good time rock 'n' roll, much, indeed, like they used to make.
Large things are deserved for these guys - and soon.
