Liam Lynch - 'Fake Songs' (EMI)
3/5

And they said irony was dead...
They clearly didn't account for the multi-faceted, post-modern guitar-wielder, Liam Lynch. The man who sprung to fame late last year with the fantastic 90 second satirical ode to inarticulate teenagers, 'United States of Whatever' has now unleashed an album. And it's twenty ultra-short, sketchy tracks of throwaway punk rock silliness that comprise Lynch's debut LP: essentially, a cooler, less rude US-version of Mark and Lard's spoof indie covers-band, The Shirehorses.
Not that 'Fake Songs' isn't enjoyable. Hilariously uncanny impersonations of Bjork, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Talking Heads and The Pixies all raise a smile, even if the air of disposable piss-take still pervades the record. Nevertheless, as far as music created by raised-eyebrow smart arses go, this is all good, (relatively) clean fun.
