Young Heart Attack - 'Misty Rowe' (XL)

3/5

Young Heart Attack - 'Misty Rowe'

The first thirty seconds of this single tell you all you need to know.

Mid-70's; heavy rock; dusty allure - 'Misty Rowe' would have been a crowd-pleaser for the likes of Deep Purple (Frenchie's vocals are highly reminiscent at times of Gillan himself) all those head-banging years ago. Whilst not as knowingly ironic as The Darkness, similarities are already starting to form (they have actually just finished a UK tour supporting said retro-rockers). Yet, the cliché unfortunately moves beyond mere sound, and into subject-matter; hark - another song about a 'movie-scene broken queen'.

There is, however, a reassuringly solid feel to the whole thing, a fact that great guitar solos and strong riffs do nothing to abate. It'd be in concert though, you imagine, where Young Heart Attack could well sound as devastating as their name.
