Yuppie Flu - 'The Blue Experiment' (Rex)

4/5

Yuppie Flu - 'The Blue Experiment'

Quite frankly sounding like no-one else and singing of crashing spaceships, the fantastically-named Yuppie Flu sound like the Flaming Lips being eaten alive by Aphex Twin on a quiet day in rural England. So, yes, alike nothing else, in short.

Reigning from Italy and with a back-catalogue that includes three albums, 'The Blue Experiment' is the group's first release for Rex Records, and auspicious it is, too. Super Furry Animals beeps 'n' bleeps, whimsical acoustic-guitar and angelic vocals may prove to be your only collective saviour throughout, with the lyrics' 'you're gonna die' sentiment sounding strangely haunting when placed amidst a bathing of motion-picture strings; how it all quite fits so sublimely is a true wonder.
