Dear old Alfie. For so long perceived as the indie equivalent of a cosy, slightly tattered cardigan from 1974, their standing as Manchester's answer to Belle and Sebastian was faced with a real challenge with last year's spunky 'Do You Imagine Things?' album.
Lee Gorton's faraway drawl remains on 'No Need', but when contending with lively brass accompaniments, lilting harmonies and dizzy keyboard fills, the result is a rather more buoyant little single than they ever used to be associated with.
