The Keys - 'From Tense To Loose To Slack' (Too Pure)
4/5
By: Toby L

In an age where The Coral are kings, The Keys should, must be princes. 'From Tense To Loose To Slack' is a timeless, woozy, druggy waltz of skidding guitars, Doors/'60s psychedelia and Havana street-market trumpets, complete with Hank Marvin twanging and - even - a 'cha-cha-cha' outro. It's humbly enchanting stuff.
Like the rest of it: 'I Believe My Eyes Are Over Exposed' is a lo-fi, woeful piece; 'There's A Place' is a Gorky's Zygotic Mynci-enlaced wonder in understatement; and 'About Time' is a loveable, Evan Dando-y strum, replete in its dextrously naive, charming vox.
Thus, to (mis-)quote an early-'90s, one-hit Euro-pop wonder from the Urban Cookie Collective, this Welsh duo have got The Keys, and they've got The Secret (to, quite possibly, unlocking your heart). Get in line.
