The Ordinary Boys - 'Week In Week Out' (B-Unique)
4/5
By: Kari Wynn

They must be putting something in the water of The Ordinary Boys. These four freshly-scrubbed half-pints from Whocares, UK sound just a little too enthusiastic - but rightfully so. With nearly every major rock reviewer firmly planting their lips and accolades where the Boys' sun don't shine, it's looking all systems go for a band that's downright anything other but what their tag would suggest.
Yes, there's something fishy going on here. Where's that sad, indie band spirit? Or the art-rock posing? Jesus H. Christ in a Kinks t-shirt, there's some seriously happy vibes flying off of this, spinning and gurning into a bubblegum Britpop re-invasion. 'Week In Week Out' is an unquestionably head-bobbing little number with one of those choruses that will take your brain hostage for weeks with no reprieve. With vocal harmonies reminiscent of Blur and Marr-esque guitar-work, it's obvious why Stephen Street was brought in to add those last few beautiful touches; though occasionally the feel is ever-so-slightly sickly slick, it's an excitingly peppy new direction in rock.
As young and excitable as they come off, The Ordinary Boys seem to live and breathe a pedigree well past their years. Although the Morrissey song they likely nicked their name from says The Ordinary Boys are 'happy going nowhere', their stance suggests anything but. Cross your fingers they figure out a way to bottle it.
