This petulant little record is reminiscent of a simpler, more innocent age when neither tunes nor even an ability to sing were required in a band.
Oh, but they get away with it quite nicely. So 'The Ex' may well be distinctly primitive stuff indeed from the Toronto natives, but the record's unrelenting 'spunk' and 'unselfconsciousness' is perhaps just enough to see it through.
