Challenger - 'Give The People What They Want In Lethal Doses' (Jade Tree)
4/5
By: Tim Dellow

F**k me! Having previously thought that the difference between 'Emo' and 'Emo-Core' was that the former is more popular (or sells more) than the latter, this record (featuring members of Milemarker) was as refreshing as rolling around in a snowdrift. And the chilblains that we got from that burn half as much as these smouldering tunes. The -CORE is HARDCORE, baby, and on the DC-informed opener 'Input The Output', you're hooked: snorting crack out of the, erm, crack of a ten-dollar hooker.
Fugazi, Husker Du... bands previously forgotten by the wimpy commercially driven punk-scene that's shovelled to the kids 24/7 by the soulless satellite-channels, this resurrects their memory, refreshingly irony-free: straight ahead agro-pop hardcore. The astounding 'Blackouts' delivers a chant-along chorus akin to Mckay's 'Blueprint', a tune that makes you want to get off your arse and do something. So f**king move.
