Grand National - 'Talk Amongst Yourselves' (Sunday Best)

Always reassuring to find a new band ploughing a distinctively individual furrow, but Grand National's decidedly different blend of maudlin guitars, arch synth-pop and deadpan vocals ends up a somewhat hit-and-miss affair.
The title-track feels sterile, but the unhurried folksy melancholia of b-sides 'Leaves' and 'Rub Your Potion' are more successful.
