Hal - 'Worry About The Wind' (Rough Trade)
3/5
By: Lauren Gallagher
First reaction: The Thrills, only more nasally-inclined (just listen to that vocalist).
'Worry About The Wind' opens with a sweet twangy guitar, and Dave Allen's whispering falsetto, and it all comes to full sway with the infectious chorus of 'I'll be there, waiting on you babe,' which soon simmers away into a lazy, summery outro equipped with a touch of brass. Aww. 'Out Tonight', elsewhere, is a knee-popping numba' with playful keyboard work and Beach Boys-inspired harmonies. Hal will certainly win the masses over with their decent, fun pop. Innovative - not necessarily. A worthy first-date, however? You wouldn't kick 'em out of bed.
