Gomez - 'Silence' (Hut)

3/5

By: Lauren Gallagher

Gomez - 'Silence'They named it well; the most contagious moment of 'Silence' is, in fact, the suspension of the song after the chorus cries the track's very title.

Although brief, the rest presents the listener with the invitation to return after the pause, head-bash and all. That's not to mention the impudent guitar throughout; full of brass and sass. 'Blind', meanwhile, boasts the band's tokenistic rehash of swinging blues, with bouncy bass, and classic-y lyrics; 'don't you mess around with me', they threaten, hoarse and jagged, like the sound of your most used and abused vinyl. Undeniably worthy, 'Blind' continues on Gomez's glance-backwards aptitude, but resultantly seems more of a tribute rather than something new.
