The Rakes - '22 Grand Job' (Trash Aesthetics)
3/5
By: Toby L
Hand-claps, a cheeky refrain ('22 grand job/In the city, it's alright') and a customarily brash vocal, and we have the latest London mod(ern)-punk cadets.
The Rakes, they're known as. They make fidgety, jilted pop - the likes of which would trigger off a stroke in your Gran. Whereas the lead-'toon is straightforward, effectively fervent rock-perfunctory, flipside 'Something Clicked & I Fell Off The Edge' is snarling and ridiculous - 'I NEED A CIGARETTE/I NEED A DRINK,' they bellow amidst wolf-howls and crushing drums. Pretty primitive indie-dancefloor fare as such, but no less entertaining for it.
