Bloc Party - 'Banquet' / 'Staying Fat' (Moshi Moshi)
4/5
By: Toby L
Already legends at this 'classic single' nonsense, Bloc Party serve up their second short-player to date, and we're still left shivering in a cold sweat.
'Banquet' is a savage, intricate guitar slash-'em-up, replete with Jonny Greenwood-esque scraping around from floppy-haired fop Russell Lissack, and vocalist Kele Okereke's infectious yelps - 'I'm on fire/When you come,' apparently. Cacophonous. 'Staying Fat', meanwhile, showcases the band's more moody, extravagant side, building as it does into a splintering wall-of-punk as ardent as shotgun-fire.
Intense tuneage and beguiling rapture. Look and listen no further.
