dios - 'Some Alcohol EP' (20-20)
2/5

Just where did all the role-models go? This song was made for alcoholic teenagers. Not exactly what one would expect from a band whose name means God in Spanish. Or, perhaps it is.
The sound: not unlike your scribe's friends' high-school bands; maybe that's because, like me, dios hail from California. Perhaps it's due to such heritage, perhaps not, but I'm going to go against the grain of recent press praise of dios. After all, these are not the most profound, nor creative pennings presently on offer - 'Some Alcohol' languidly sways 'just as long as I get horny and you give me some,' while the guitar smacks of Byrds-ian influences. Oh, and let's not forget the tambourine. 'You'll Get Yours', meanwhile, plods along with as much ambition as a stoner going to math-class - while modern-day psychedelia of the slow-motion sort constitutes 'Long Long Long', and leaves but a blur of a memory. dios will keep us guessing on that one.
Sigh. Obviously: dios will be massive; 'Some Alcohol' is a born-summer anthem, but as far as a qualified musical representative of our shared home-state, we're reluctant to fly their flag this time.
