Hayley Willis has the voice and musical talents of a grizzled soul veteran with years of smoky jazz club experience to match. Her vocals are cross between the confrontational grittiness of Macy Gray and the suggestive sweetness of Erykah Badu.
Her debut album 'Come Get Some' is fiercely rumoured to be nominated for a Mercury Music Prize this year and deservedly so if this outstanding single is anything to go by - weathered and as sultry as any Deep South, cotton-picking mama. Life experience is clearly evident and commendably feisty in this soulful slice of grimy blues. What a woman.
