MC Mabon - 'Buy This Now...' (Boobytrap)

... Or to put it slightly more succinctly, 'wacky, Welsh pandemonium with attempts at additionally providing a serious political awareness'...
Gruff Meredith aka MC Mabon is both prolific (this is his fourth album since 2000) and something of an eccentric, only emerging once in a blue-moon to even consider the prospect of performing a gig or penning a record.
The obvious 'Valley Mavericks' connections - most saliently, the early work of the Super Furry Animals - spring to mind on hearing 'BTNBBHGSIAORUA (AWOFTMAMR)'. MC Mabon employs the same deliriously enthusiastic, all-encompassing approach to creating musical chaos as the Super Furries, and given his strong vocal similarity to Gruff Rhys it's often hard to distance the two acts.
Yet, there's a couple of consecutively very good 'protest' tracks here; an appeal for genuine national identity ('Fake American Accents') and the amusing personal gripes of 'Hotels And B + Bs A Shit Cos Yuv Gotta Pay 4 2 Nites If U Wanna Lie In'. Elsewhere, this album appears little more than a mess-about miscellany - which, indeed, forms much of its abrasive charm.
