My Red Cell - 'In A Cage (On Prozac)'

3/5

By: Thomas Hannan

My Red Cell - 'In A Cage (On Prozac)'Now these boys can yelp. The bit at the end of the Sex Pistols' 'Holidays In The Sun' where Rotten's just ranting about wanting to go 'over the Berlin wall' in that high pitched, bratty voice - every word here is uttered with similar pent-up aggression. Certainly, the energy to it is considerably electric.

So it's shouted with a primal bark and has the texture of spark-plugs, but the actual tune? It's one of immense simplicity, a couple of chords, a 'you shout it with me' call and response line, and all over before you truly want to smack it for being so darned repetitive.

It's not going to win any awards for songwriting prowess, but if you like your indie to present itself entirely on face value and possess the ability to knock out a tune so contagious you'll book a doctor's appointment, you yourself might be won over. Others, however, may take the following attitude - it certainly rocks, but ultimately it's still difficult to decide whether it's masterfully catchy, or just a little bit annoying.
