Kings Of Convenience - 'Misread' (Source)

5/5

By: Kevin Molloy

Kings Of ConvenienceSome things are too good for this morbid world. Still, it's a tearful shame that this track won't be widely available, being available only on 7" and download. And that's the only criticism we have of this single; henceforward let not a word be uttered against the most breathtakingly blissful track this summer, or any, could ever produce. You can take your choice of superlatives, a choice few follow below:

It's been far too long since we last heard from our Norwegian friends, but like their music itself, their lives and collaboration simply take place on a different time-scale. It might have seemed impossible to equal the melodic genius of their debut, 'Quiet Is The New Loud', but 'Misread' does precisely that. The plucked acoustics and percussive double bass serve as a bucolic backdrop to the meandering, philosophical vocals, fused with a perfect piano refrain of jazzy panache. Simple string arrangements weave in and out of the bossa-swing rhythm, whilst you lie back, possibly tapping your foot, and make best friends with the new musical royalty. And Kings they will indeed be if their next album follows form; rockfeedback pledge their allegiance.
