Bell X1 - 'Eve, The Apple Of My Eye' (Universal-Island)
2/5

Greetings and salutations from the hottest thing to come out of Ireland since Westlife and 'Father Ted'. Yes, ladies and germs, hold on to your pants, for this is the sweet sound of Bell X1, who apparently have not only gone gold (in Ireland) but also 'have driven people to change their life' (apparently).
Though this may be the case, sadly 'Eve. The Apple of My Eye' smacks of that overdone, overblown, overly-emotive chasm of song that so many bands seem to be willingly throwing themselves into. Lead-singer, Paul Noonan, while 'pensive, emotionally fragile and has a degree in computer engineering', sounds impossibly like Fran Healy-lite. He's not to be outdone by his band, though, who smash it up in a plodding, heartache-by-numbers style. From the title-track through B-sides 'Ten
Paces' and the rather sappily named 'Like, I Love You', songs seem to meander along at a pace that might just catch up with any 90-year-old woman - and contain
just as much excitement.
