Six By Seven - 'Ready For You Now' (Saturday Night Sunday Morning)

2/5

By: Lauren Gallagher

Six By Seven - 'Ready For You Now'As hard as Six By Seven may try, their latest 'Ready For You Now' remains a pretty tame return. The organ and Chris Olley's vocals initiate simultaneously, but the latter lingers like a guest who has overstayed their welcome; the prolonged 'I'm ready for you now' stretches over the musical pleasantries like a happy-clappy preachy vocal - attention-craving and with an unfortunate whine.

Shame - since it is quite clear Six By Seven are capable of more. Olley's voice is better used in the bitter pout of 'She Didn't Say', while the guitars seem fuelled by blues venom. The nearly 10-minute virtuosic indulgence of 'Pretty Baby' showcases their technical talents, i.e. an insatiable ability to belligerently rock out, but the buck stops there. You've heard it before. While not entirely unpleasant, the lack of mature composition leaves us feeling a bit indifferent.
