The Radio Dept. - 'Why Won't You Talk About It?' (XL Recordings)
5/5

Those zany Swedes. Not only do they get the midnight sun and the impossibly attractive natives (maybe with the exception of Dr. Matt Destruction), but they also get the satisfaction of churning out some of the most refreshingly new sound around. Shimmying right into the fold come wild-eyed wonders, The Radio Dept., who kick out a sound that would turn even Kevin Shields a jealous shade of electric green.
Cascading into a wild-eyed, white-noise-laden wall-of-sound, The Radio Dept. seem to have taken the Way Back Machine to 1991 and taken its tutelage from Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine. Blending layer upon layer and noise upon noise while rhythmically structured to nearly sound like your CD player's on the blink, 'Why Won't You Talk About It?' oozes a blinding urgency coupled with a dreamy JAMC-style vocal. B-sides follow suit, with standout track 'I Don't Need Love, I've Got My Band' is a snappy, Britpoppy, headbobber of a number whilst entering the competition for Witty Song Title of the Year.
A shiny reminder of all the reasons you loved the old wall-of-noise in the first place. Magic.
