The Zutons - 'Remember Me' (Deltasonic)

4/5

By: Lauren Gallagher

The Zutons - 'Remember Me'Cowboy boots and Stetson hats probably don't connote images of Liverpudlians The Zutons, but - still - 'Remember Me' owes much to its country 'n' western predecessors.

For they are an odd bunch. In the quintet's latest, a swinging acoustic-strum gives way to a twangy chorus, whose best moments arrive when the 'white man's blues' guitar holds a faint resemblance to the country smack of 'Help!'. The sax squawks over the drums, elsewhere, accentuating the hearty stomp, cunningly hovering between gaudiness and riotous fun.

Already fighting innumerable comparisons to The Coral, The Zutons will inevitably have to continue the battle for the crown to nouveau psychedelia, but will they conquer? Well, maybe yet. 'Remember Me' has a chorus so infectious, it really hurts. But we're willing to bargain this is the best kind of pain out there.
