Outkast - 'Roses' (BMG)

Are Outkast actually capable of conjuring a toss song anymore? At present, it would seem not; 'Roses' proves yet another example of their continued ingenuity. Andre 3000's latest creation not only provides a rigorous arse-shake of a track; it also manages a crossover appeal hitherto unimaginable: undeniably making every child under five their permanent fan with the lyric, 'roses really smell like poo-oo-oooh'.
The track is a debauched blend of funky beats and 70s keys, leading into a chorus that could border on the ubiquity of 'Hey Ya', even without noticing its pre-pubescent humour. 'Roses' provides everything we've come to expect from one of hip-hop's largest forces, without losing any freshness in the process. Whilst this single would only feature towards the end of a 'Best-Of' tracklisting, take that only as evidence that the library of hits is only set to continue. Sing along now kids: 'I know you like to think your shh don't stink, but...'
