Bloc Party - 'Little Thoughts' (Wichita)
4/5
By: Toby L
After the brooding inauguration that resided in Bloc Party's mesmerising debut shouts - 'She's Hearing Voices' and 'Banquet' - Kele Okereke, Russell Lissack, Gordon Moakes and Matthew Tong (learn those names now - you'll soon be scribbling them on your exercise-books/business-journals in a crazed fan-delirium, take it from us) return with an altogether more conventional blaring.
But 'Little Thoughts' is so fast, so melodic, so thrilling, you won't care - you'll be too dazed in a state of sycophantic whimsy. How this formula of buzzsaw, chopping guitars, Okereke's achingly infectious blurt, plundering bass and everything-and-the-kitchen-sink drumming remains such a wonder is the greatest secret Bloc Party have to offer. And, just like trying to unravel all great mysteries, we'll all be spending the rest of our time trying to figure out just what it is that has made us deserve this most splendid and euphoric of clatters, aka the Party of Bloc.
