Colour Of Fire - 'The Exile' (Riverman)
3/5
By: Clara Burtenshaw
Supporting the likes of Silverchair and Placebo on tour have made moshtastic mettle of York quartet Colour of fire, and the first release from the forthcoming Pearl Necklace album, a slick slice of suitably melancholic, gritty metal sleaze should secure success as new grebo kids on the block.
Assimilating the best of QOTSA, At The Drive-In, and the usual emo/grunge suspects, lead-singer Owen Richards' vocals are refreshingly crystal clear and distinct; the familiar emotive lament reserved till last, and in this case overlain softly over the vocals. The superb jagged guitars and repetitively rhythmic pounding bass will make this a live anthem before the year's out.
