Colour Of Fire - 'The Exile' (Riverman)

3/5

By: Clara Burtenshaw

Colour Of Fire - 'The Exile'Supporting the likes of Silverchair and Placebo on tour have made moshtastic mettle of York quartet Colour of fire, and the first release from the forthcoming Pearl Necklace album, a slick slice of suitably melancholic, gritty metal sleaze should secure success as new grebo kids on the block.

Assimilating the best of QOTSA, At The Drive-In, and the usual emo/grunge suspects, lead-singer Owen Richards' vocals are refreshingly crystal clear and distinct; the familiar emotive lament reserved till last, and in this case overlain softly over the vocals. The superb jagged guitars and repetitively rhythmic pounding bass will make this a live anthem before the year's out.
