The Bronx - 'False Alarm' (Wichita)
3/5
By: Samantha Hall
The Bronx are a capable, vibrant and incredibly electric band. Signed to the indie-label of the mo, Wichita; they offer on a scuzzy, possibly salmonella-infected plate what has been missing from the punk/emo world for a number of fretting, troubled years: bold, new fascist punk, sexless and un-pretty.
However, 'False Alarm' by a mile doesn't do them justice. Predictable, patterned as precisely and unimaginatively as a stitching collage, this is clean-cut yelping with the odd integrated yowl. The B-side, a cover of Neil Young's 'The Needle And The Damage Done' - the dragging tale of a heroin abuser, appears in this context droney and issue-ridden, an over-indulgent crackly saga, although the after-glow guitar is admirably grunge.
