It just goes to show how much you can do with a simple pop song. Yeah, finding a tune is fun, but even more fun is seeing what can be done with it, how it can be twisted and perverted to make it even more of lip-cracking, skin-tingling experience.
International Airport challenged Teenage Fanclub; the Zorro of the songwriting world, to a duel over the stunning, slow-burning summer picnic that opened this year's astounding 'Reunion of Island Goose' LP.
Included on this EP are four cuts from a freshly sharpened sword. The original of course, which still befuddles with Pavement-esque charm and runaway xylophones. The Teenage Fanclub rendition; a voice-straining beat-pop piece the Velvet's would be proud of, and a great companion to their partnership with Jad Fair.
The wonder of computers allows a 'channel mesh', however, when both versions are overlaid and subtly mixed to produce perhaps the definitive version of the dreamy Sunday morning pick-me-up.
