The Mooney Suzuki - 'Alive & Amplified' (Columbia / Sony)

Plain fun. The guitar and drums grind down instantly, crash to the floor, then rise from the ashes into an inferno of tambourines, falsetto backup vocals, and funk groove. The chorus says it all (without, amusingly, saying anything at all): 'Turn me on and turn me up and turn me loose, I am alive and amplified', while Sammy James Jr.'s intuitive vocal phrasing bleeds soul during the verses.
In their exuberant bombast, the Mooney are everything you want, and more, at your party. In a similar vibe to their popular 'Electric Sweat', the Mooney let their belt-it-out, 60's inspirations prevail, but not to the point of a blatant rehash. And even if they did, their unrelenting tongues-in-cheeks make any such 'copycat' notions null and void. These boys are out to have a blast, and - thank f**k - take you with them.
