Black Wire - 'Hard To Love' (Global Warming)
3/5
By: Toby L
With guitars ransacked from The Rapture's broom-cupboard; yelping, breathy vox clinched from Cumbrian barmy army British Sea Power; dance-moves emulating midland sensations The Departure; and a choral series of guitar-licks that The Libertines would... OK, got the message.
Black Wire, however, overcome such suffocating modern influence to prove even vaguely likeable, if only for the sheer eccentricity and rabid melting-pot that makes their debut 45 'Hard To Love' so schizophrenic and shamelessly 2004. Better still is the bass-shag of 'Easy To Lay' - like Elastica fronted by Adam Ant. F**king bizarre.
