The Music - 'Freedom Fighters' (Virgin)

4/5

By: Kari Wynn

The Music - 'Freedom Fighters'After a much-lauded self-titled debut, The Music seemingly have much to answer for. It's no cakewalk trying to deliver one's self from the 'Difficult Second Album Syndrome'. Taken from their forthcoming album, 'Welcome to the North', it's off to an astoundingly relieving start for these plucky kids if 'Freedom Fighters' is anything to go by.

With a fat old spandex-clad riff that would make an Aerosmith of yesteryear grin with cheesy metal delight, as if they'd just spied a fresh new lump o' brown, 'Freedom Fighters' is a metal-sign throwing, rock-n-roll stomper, full of the kind of stuff that made you love your first hard rock album way back when. Frontdude Robert Harvey seems to literally swagger through it, delivering a blistering vocal that tips its hat to what a sweat-laden Perry Farrell might dish out on a good night. Wrap that up with some huge 'Love In An Elevator'-style drums and you're practically in the picture.

The Music are back. And although they're tendering freedom, they're certainly taking no prisoners.
