The Detroit Cobras - 'Cha Cha Twist' (Rough Trade)
3/5

The Romp. Call us what you will, but we're beginning to truly enjoy these things. They're a one-night stand: you find them on the dancefloor (it's those bouncy drums that really caught your ear), and before you know it your two-and-a-half hot and sweaty minutes come to a climactic, gushing end.
You might never hear the song again, replaced by a new tune with even bouncier drums, or it might become a trustworthy regular, always ready to liven up your night. 'Cha Cha Twist' certainly fits the bill with its retro-danceable cool and sultry garage-rock vocals. And it's these moments of joyous promiscuity that can lead to deeper things; another musical union in the blissful polygamy that exists between the fans and the bands. Whether The Detroit Cobras have the commitment for a more serious relationship we shall see with their ensuing LP. But right now it's single-time... so just don't flirt on the dancefloor - take them home and try them out.
