Yeah Yeah Yeahs - 'Y Control' (Dress Up / Polydor)
4/5
By: Thomas Hannan
It has to be said, re-acquainting ourselves with 'Y Control' has been a bloody pleasure - it's ace, no two ways about it. But the question remains - why now?
So there's a DVD lurking, a few high profile shows on the cards, but the truth remains that a wider audience needed 'Y Control' before now. An indisputable highlight of 'Fever To Tell', if not the year in general, here the YYY's manage to combine all that was so touching about 'Maps' with the parts in 'Date With The Night' that just made you want to break everything you owned for a laugh. Some bleeping, some chugging riffs and a melody marinated in the sweetest of honeys, like some kind of seedy glam punk rock love song, it should have you utterly captivated.
Perhaps then, the only good thing about the delay in setting it free on its own is that there's that little bit less time to wait before its creators return with some new material. We're all for innovation, but who among us would actually be that upset if whatever the 'Yeahs do next sounded even half as magical as this?
