The Heavenly States - 'King Epiphany' (Baria Records)
3/5
By: Tim Dellow
The Heavenly States, sidle out of the dust storms of Iraq, ready to launch a covert attack on their leaders who drove them to an unjust war. And their weapon? The article that will bring down the puppet-ruled dictatorship and media controlled Big Brother terror reign? Pop-Punk!
Gagon, a strong fighter, rallies forward with that A-bomb of melody, while his sister (field name Weezer), exhales wafts of mustard gas to give the enemy one helluva Green Day.
You know, I gotta admire bands for trying with this, The aforementioned's concept album which sees Billy Joe write a 10 minute track against Bush's certainly better than another 'Basket Case' (which King Epiphany's guitar line is a direct, ahem, reference to), but, other than the American skill of turning rebellion into money (their sales haven't been bettered since their zenith 'Dookie'), what can they hope to achieve?
Do The Heavenly States really think that the Bush administration is ever going to hear their 'cacophonous tower of Babel' - a role call of all the (American) civilians to have lost their lives in the war? And if they do, do you think it's going to make them take their troops out of Iraq?
We admire you for trying guys, but we're gonna need rebel-rousing fighting songs to encourage the masses to destroy their oppressor; not happy tunes which take a sly dig at the government on the side.
