Zack De La Rocha - 'We Want It All' (Sony)

4/5

By: Samantha Hall

Zack... - 'We Want...'Chunky, throbbing riffs as thick and juicy as any prime rib we know. Hmmm... taste the beef.

Zack De La Rocha's totalitarian American offering is as purest Yankee as a thick slice of Momma's pecan pie. It personifies the core elements of America that we sneer and roll our eyes at and self-righteously thank heavens that our Europe has quite made the full transition to (yet).

'We Want It All' greedily gobbles through rolling, mounting verses, slapping on to the counter every poor, cynical, despicable principle America stands for - or, at least, is associated with... mass-consumerism, materialism... more, more, more... mass-eaterism, even... Feeding and indulging, gorging and gluttonising, over every greasy detail, every drum-roll, every slick guitar-slide.

So, indeed, this is one of the phat tunes that got under Mr Moore's weighty hot layers to inspire and agitate himself enough to create the glorious popular culture propaganda film that is 'Fahrenheit 9/11'. Hearty, extensive and balanced, like the film, this single proves masterful.
